So you’re thinking about selling your home, what do you need to fix before you go on the market? It’s really helpful to do a quick walk through the home. I always recommend that you start at the street and imagine that you were a buyer who just parked and is walking up to your home. The first impression is everything – the landscaping, the condition of the exterior paint, the door mat, the front door and hardware. Those are the things that a buyer will look at, first. Then walk through the home, noting anything cluttered, chipped, or broken, make a list and start tackling those items. We have found that hands down, the #1 biggest bang for your buck is painting – both exterior and interior. So if you do nothing else, consider hiring a painter on a day rate to do some touch up, drywall repair and some freshening up of baseboards. How to Get Your Home Ready to Sell

So you’re thinking about selling your home and you want to get the most money for it. Right? Of course you do! Who doesn’t? But before you put that “for sale” sign in the front yard, there are a few things you should do first to make sure your home is in tip-top shape. With a little elbow grease (and maybe a little money), you can make your home irresistible to buyers. Here’s how:

Start at the Beginning – First Impressions Matter!

The first thing any potential buyer is going to see is the outside of your home. So, it’s important to make sure that the landscaping is trimmed and neat, the exterior paint is fresh and without any chips or cracks, and that everything appears to be well-maintained. These are all things that can be easily fixed (and relatively cheaply, too). Trust me, it’ll be worth it when that “for sale” sign generates interest and people start scheduling showings.

The inside of your home is just as important as the outside. Take a walk through each room and make a list of anything that needs to be fixed, replaced, or cleaned. This could be anything from cracked tiles and chipped paint to cluttered rooms and dirty windows. Again, these are all things that can be easily fixed with a little time (and money).

You might be thinking, “Why should I bother fixing all of this stuff? The new owner can just do it themselves.” While that’s true, remember that first impressions matter! You want potential buyers to walk into your home and see a clean slate – a blank canvas where they can imagine their own lives unfolding. If your home is in disrepair, it will only serve as a deterrent and turn people away.

Paint It Up! – The #1 Way to Boost Your Home’s curb appeal

There’s no denying the power of a fresh coat of paint. It can literally transform any space – small or large – making it feel new again. If your walls are looking tired and outdated, consider giving them a makeover before putting your home on the market. A fresh coat of paint (or even just touched up areas) can do wonders for boosting curb appeal and making potential buyers fall in love with your home at first sight. Not to mention, painting is one of the most inexpensive ways to renovate a space. That makes it a real winner in my book!

Selling your home doesn’t have to be difficult (or expensive). By following these simple tips, you can increase your chances of getting top dollar for your property. Just remember, the key is making sure your home looks its best before putting it on the market. After all, first impressions matter!
